Freshwater pumps distribute water to fittings on a yacht. Pressurized water systems make a living onboard more pleasant by supplying water “on tap” for dishwashing, bathing, and other uses.

Outboard water pumps have basic designs. The pump contains a rubber impeller that is keyed to the engine driveshaft. Water enters the lower gearcase by inlets on the sidewalls of the gearcase, right above the propeller shaft region. A water pump kit includes the timing belt, water pump, seals and gaskets, pulleys, and tensioners. It also has instructions and a sticker to record the date and distance of the replacement.
